Locorotondo

Where the Murgia degrades and the Itria Valley starts there raises Locorotondo, on the top of a hill surrounded by a wide tract of green.
 
The first urban centre is dated back to the Year Thousand, a village made up of farmers that built their huts on a terraced tableland. What made the history of Locorotondo was the pessevering of the agricultural work activity of entire generations and the result: hundreds vineyards and olive groves. From these prestigious vineyards it produced the D O C. Locorotondo wines that sum up all the culture and the rural tradition.
 
Impressive it is the historic centre in a rural architecture, made up of simple houses rectangularity shaped with a particular stone roofs, the Romanesque church of St. Maria la Greca, and the Neo-classic church Matrice. The local gastronomy offers delicious variety of dishes, in fact very interesting are the several food-and-wine itineraries you can choose for an original holiday.
Not to be missed are the folkloristic  events and the village festivals.
