Noci

nociThe history of Noci dates back to the fourth century; its name derives from a wide walnut groves existing at that time.
 Noci is situated at 420 metres above the sea-level, its territory is marked by oak trees spread all over the undulating ground.
The natural faunistic reserve of Barsento is situated where the earliest            human settlement in the zone was discovered (a prehistorical messapic village).
The mild climate, the fresh and pure air and tourist facilities (hotels and farms), make Noci an ideal place for visitors and tourists.
 The artistic heritage is remarkable, the main landmarks are: the abbey church of Barsento (dating fourth century); the gothic-romanic “Madre” church; the church of “Santa Maria della Croce” (dating fifteenth century); the benedictine abbey of “Madonna della Scala” with a romanic church built during the twelfth century. In Noci there are many religious and popular traditions, which festivals dedicated to Saint Rocco (the first sunday of september); to the Madonna della Croce (3rd of may) and to Saint Cosma and Damiano (the second sunday of october). The “Noci city band” has a great tradition within the apulian musical sector; while the “Noci jazz festival” is an international event performed in june. The economy of the city is based on the tertiary, alimentary (dairy, farming, sausage factories, chocolate) and manufactured industries; the cattle-breeding is very expanded in the countryside, so Noci could be considered as the apulian main centre for zootechny.
