| Putignano
Through the years Putignano went under different rules as Federico II, Brienne, dukes of Athens and Sirs of Lecce, as feud of Gerosolomitani knights and then Rodi.
The old city made of narrow alleys, white medieval houses, eighteen-century balconies and a remarkable patrimony of churches and convents origin and the history of this population and the long historical course of the town. The people have been able to keep the arts, the traditions and the ancient jobs of this culture, despite the progress and the industrial development; symbol of this tenacity is the prestigious Carnival officially dated from the 1394, but effectively dated back to the most ancient pagan rites where the satire and grimaces has become nowadays a floats parade.
Putignano is situated on the top of three hills, surrounded by a relaxing and salubrious nature scattered with Trulli and beautiful villas. Very interesting are the rupestrian churches of St. Michele in Monte Laureto, of Madonna delle Grazie dug
in the caves and Grotta del Trullo full of alabaster concretions. The sculptures by sixteen-century Stefano da Putignano, which is the Renaissance-Pugliese art; with the other patrimony is held in these churches.
